Logan had a great season with his Super League Baseball Team the Cache Colts. He was the starting pitcher, but also played a number of other positions...I think his favorite was 3rd base. Here he is pitching, batting, and running. Oh and I have no idea why these guys and weezer.com showed up on this...it's never happened before!

Katelyn Dance Recital May 9, 2009

Katelyn has been taking ballet and tap again this year. Her recital went very well. She loves it and has learned a lot of new steps...her tap riffs are amazing! Here is a little taste...In the black leotard (Ballet Technique) dance Kate starts on the right side in the short sleeve black leotard and ends up in the middle. In the yellow costume (Ballet Performance Dance)Kate start in the middle, moves to the left side, and in the end is standing up on the back row on the right. In the newsies tap number Katelyn is the one in the brown nickers, light vest and plaid shirt. Enjoy!

Spence Soccer

Spencer played soccer again this spring. A couple of the games were rained (or snowed) out and at the end of the month he was saying he thought the season went too fast and wished there were more games to play.

With such a wet spring, we spent a lot of time indoors. One day the kids were complaining about not being able to go out and play, so I showed them how we used to make forts using all of the chairs, stools, and blankets in the house. They thought it was awesome! They watched a movie and read books in their new hideout and mom had a good idea for a change!

Jay has said since we got married how much he wants a motorcycle...so, I broke down and bought him one this year for Christmas. Okay, so it wasn't exactly what he was hoping for;) We spent a few days putting it together and it will shortly find a place on a wall in his office. Logan also got a puzzle of something he enjoys...baseball!

The Kindergarten classes really outdid themselves with this program. They sang all the old favorites...Up on the Housetop, Jingle Bells, Jolly Old St. Nick, Rudolph, Must Be Santa, and also a couple we had never heard like this C is for Christmas which quickly became a favorite at our house. Spencer did a great job! He is on the front row on the right...short sleeved green collar shirt and blue pants.

Katelyn has become even more graceful this year...she is loving her ballet class and she took up a tap class this year too. This was her Christmas performance on December 13th...she was a snowflake. (Incidently, her teacher formed all of the crowns for her class out of silver pipe cleaners, even up close they looked like real tiaras!)

...from our gaggle of Turkeys! Jay's mom sent us this life size turkey to "protect" our home (he was dressed as a pilgrim complete with gun). He sat inside our front door on his own little chair. He gave me quite a start a couple of times, when I walked in the dark room and saw the outline of someone sitting in a chair!

We had a great Thanksgiving. We drove up to Rexburg for the day and spent it with our Warnick family. It was good to visit with everyone, the food was delicious, and Logan & Jay got their football fix. We are so thankful for so many things, life, health, our family, friends (all over the country), talents, a job that allows Jay to work from our home, a warm home in the cold winter, and testimonies of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

He just finished playing for that team last Saturday and has been practicing with a Super League team since the week of Christmas. They played in a tournament over the weekend. This year Halloween was a little different...the elementary school decided to do parent teacher conferences the day before, so there was no school for two days, the kids didn't wear their costumes to school or really have class parties. They did the carnival indoors on Halloween (how they always do it in Rexburg). A lot of people were bugged though because usually it is earlier in the school year and outside where there is more room for people to get around. We sort of threw costumes together with what we had and our only purchases were Katelyn's witches' hat and broom. We did carve pumpkins too, but couldn't find our digital camera for a few weeks, so had to use our old 35mm and haven't developed them yet.

Logan decided to dress up as Jaycee Carroll (he was the star of the USU basketball team last year...he has now graduated and is playing in Italy this year). Logan was funny, he kept saying well since this is my last year of Halloween (dressing up, trick or treating, etc)... He thinks he is too old and mature to participate.
Katelyn was a witch this year, and a very cute one at that! She dressed in black and used Spencer's Spiderman cape (thanks Di) and wore the orange Halloween socks my mom sent. She loved trick or treating this year and didn't want to stop to come home for dinner.

Spencer wanted to dress up as Harry Potter again this year which was great for us. He is so cute and everyone could always tell right off who he was.

Matthew was our little giraffe. This was a costume that Spencer wore a few years ago, but Spencer was older and liked the hat...Matthew wasn't so sure.

We had a fun day...it was beautiful and warm which was a welcome switch from the freezing, snowing, windy, cold Halloweens in our past. Logan had school, but it was Friday, so he got out early. Then we went downtown to trick or treat at the businesses. After that we came home and got ready to go to the carnival at the school. We trick or treated our neighborhood, had some soup at the neighbor's, and I passed out candy with the little ones while Logan and Jay went to the first USU basketball game of the season.

Matthew (and Jay) on Halloween at our Elementary School Carnival. He was a giraffe this year, but he hated the hood, so we never did get a picture of him happy or smiling in his costume except when he feel asleep in his stroller while we were trick or treating down town and his giraffe head was next to his face. He also loves to take his socks off, so we are always missing at least one. I think he might be eating his toes in this one.

Mom and Matthew outside our front door. Spencer is loving taking pictures these days. Every time I turn around he has taken the camera and is snapping pictures of something. The funniest is when he puts the movie feature on and does the commentary as he shows you around the house. Spencer actually took this picture (one of the few that we kept)...what did we ever do before digital cameras...oh yeah, we would pay to develop the roll and find out that all the pictures were of the floor, out the window, some you couldn't even figure out what they were and waste a whole roll of film.

This was the day of Matthew's first haircut (before and after). I have never had to cut any of my kids hair before their 1st birthday, but I just couldn't stand it any more. He was really tired, but we took a couple of inches off around his ears and evened it up everywhere else. He is actually ready for his second haircut any day now.

I love this picture! We had a barbeque when Jay got back from his trips in late Sept. and this was Matthew playing on a blanket while dinner was cooking.

Matthew is now 11 1/2 months! Where has the time gone? We are busy trying to keep up with him these days as he is into everything and crawling all over. He cut two teeth this week making a total of 5, three on the top, two on the bottom. He absolutely loves balls and "passing" them back and forth to you. We think he may want to be a drummer because he loves beating everything in time, which is great until we go to church and he is pounding on the doors and chairs in Sunday school;) He has also found the piercing, shrill scream that so many little ones are so fond of. He's pretty proud of it...it's driving the rest of us sort of nuts! Needless to say, we are spending most of our hours at church in the hall or mother's room. It is going to be a long 6 months until he can go to nursery.

He says dada for sure and knows exactly who that is...he adores Jay and lights up every time he comes in the room. He's quite stingy on saying mom and reserves that to once a week or so when he knows that nobody else around will meet his needs as quickly and accurately as he needs them to. He also says tickle, uh-oh, peek-boo, Jesus, and a lot of other things we don't always understand. He started clapping recently, too. He is trying to walk around the furniture and we've only had a few mishaps with falling and hitting his head on the vast expanse of tile floor in our house. We can't believe he will be one in a few weeks! We'll post some more then.

Tomorrow is Jay's Birthday...he is on a business trip in Tennesee so we thought we would show a few pictures and brag him up a bit, so he would know that we love him and are missing him and wishing we could make his day great! We are going to have to celebrate all week just to make it up to him.

Jay was born September 20, 1970 to Loyd and Jane Warnick in Upland, CA. He is the youngest of 5 and I'm told that all of his older siblings adored him and between his mom and sisters he really had 4 mothers. He grew up moving back and forth a few times from CA to UT. He loved playing baseball growing up and has enjoyed coaching all of Logan's teams these past few years.

Jay graduated from Taylorsville High School, Ricks College (Journalism), and Utah State University with a degree in Horticulture. He served an LDS mission to Milwaulkee, Wisconsin. He spent the first 11 years of our marriage and his career as a fields director and groundskeeper for the University of Utah, BYU-ID, the Baltimore Ravens, and the Seattle Seahawks. (Hence all the moving). He now works for World Class Athletic Surfaces and sells the paint, stencils, and all to keep the games going.

Jay is such a wonderful person. He is a loyal friend and companion. He never says anything negative about anyone. He is a fantastic husband and father to our 4 children. He is always trying to figure out who needs a little help and has helped countless people with sprinklers, landscapes (both design and installation) and helped the masses move in and out of different neighborhoods (the joys of owning a truck). He sang in a quartet in our Salt Lake neighborhood for a year or so in 2000. He loves fly fishing and airplanes. If he has one unfulfilled dream in his life it is to be a pilot. He still has hopes of owning a motorcycle or an airplane...we'll see. His favorite color is green and he was recently called as the Elder's Quorum President in our new ward (they just split our huge ward).

There is a lot more to Jay than all of this, but I hope I hit some of the high points and you learned something new about him. We love him lots and hope he has a great day. Jay is the best thing that has ever happened to me and I am so thankful to be his wife. Happy Birthday Jay!

Happy Anniversary to US!

Jay and I have been married for 13 years today! Where have the years gone? Now that we are back here living in Logan it seems like just yesterday that we were dating and falling in love. Jay and I met in the fall of 1994. He was starting his last year at USU majoring in Horticulture, I was working in my first salon, UpperCuts, on Main Street in Logan. He was the Family Home Evening Coordinator in our singles ward and I was one of the "moms" over one of the groups.

We met in Aug/Sept, but didn't really even notice each other much until after we returned to school/work in January. We more than noticed each other when our Bishop had a meeting to get us all excited about planning fun FHE's for the new semester. We played the game where you tell two truths and a lie...nobody could believe that I was the 3rd of 13 children and thought that was my outlandish lie, but it's TRUE. I noticed how complimentary Jay was of his FHE partner and what a nice guy he was. I thought it would be nice to get to know him better.

The next night our ward had a dinner and square dance...we were in the same square and flirted as we passed each other. A few days later Jay called me using his calling as an excuse and we ended up being on the phone for over an hour. He came up with a couple of his roommates and asked if we were going to the USU basketball game the next night. I wasn't planning on it, but when I got home from work it sounded like fun, so I called him to see if he was still going. I wasn't a student, so we tried to get me in using my roommates activity card which was promptly taken away and Jay paid my way in and then sweet talked the girl into giving it back to him. Smooth talker!

We started seeing each other every day after that. He would stop by on my day off after class. I would make him dinner, we went to a few concerts (Celtic Night on St. Patrick's Day was our favorite...oh! and dressing up and going to the Symphony), I watched him play his softball games and bandaged up his knee that wouldn't ever quite heal. The more time I spent with him, the more I was hooked. After only two weeks of hanging out with him I knew I was in trouble.

I told him I loved him the night before he went to Seattle over Spring Break with the Plant Science Club. I thought I had completely scared him away and that I wouldn't see him much after that, but after being introduced at Stake Conference from the pulpit as Jay's "special friend" (his dad was the Stake President), and spending some time with his family, he decided I might be a good risk. He proposed on Memorial Day 1995 on our way back to Logan after spending the day in Pleasant Grove with his family. When we told his parents, they said, "Good, if he didn't propose, we were going to."

We were married in the Salt Lake Temple at 9:30am on Sept. 19, 1995. We had a lovely luncheon at SLCC (which was where I graduated from) hosted by Jay's parents. Ran to our tiny basement apartment in Sugar House long enough to curl my hair again and were off to the Lion House Garden for our reception. I loved every single thing about our wedding day. The only thing I felt bad about was that people stood in line for 2 hours at our reception to see us...I think the whole Taylorsville Stake came and half of Salt Lake and Kamas too!

Jay is the perfect husband for me. He completes me and balances me out in every way. He is the most amazing person...so kind and considerate of others and their needs. He just keeps getting better as the years go by too. I know we wouldn't have survived this last pregnancy and having a baby again after 5 years without all he did to keep everything going while I was so sick and otherwise out of commission. He works so hard in all that he does and makes sure that everything gets done and done right. I love you, Jay, Happy Anniversary!

Time Out For Women

Last weekend, my mom and some of my sisters came up to Logan to go to Deseret Book's Time Out For Women. It was amazing...great speakers and musicians...very uplifting...just what I needed.

Baby Matthew's Cute Noises...

The other day Matthew was just being so cute, we had to get in on camera. He's getting so grown up and seems to change every day. Spencer was actually also telling me about his day at school, so you will also hear him reciting Hickory Dickory Dock in the background. Matthew is starting to scoot around, not really crawl, but he is able to get around a little and he loves to pull up to stand on all the furniture. Looks like we are going to have another early walker at our house.

1st Day of School...Already?!

Well, today was another first at our house. Logan started Middle School. He is in the 6th grade and attending Spring Creek Middle School. He was pretty nervous going to a new school, having a locker, and trying to figure out where his 7 classes were. I was worried about him all day and hoping that he had a good day and experience. He survived, even came out smiling, and was excited that his best friend Mason was in 5 of his 7 classes. So, I don't know that he met a lot of other kids, but at least some of the newness will have worn off for tomorrow. It has brought back a lot of memories for me as I have helped him get registered and ready for middle school. I can't believe Logan is old enough to go to middle school, which in turn makes me wonder when Jay and I ever got old enough to have a child this old!

Katelyn is starting 3rd grade. Her teacher this year is Mrs. Rawlins. The picture with her teacher was taken last night at back to school night. Katelyn rode the bus to and from school today (see did NOT enjoy that...at least that's what she said). She seemed to like her teacher and I was impressed with the classroom responsibilities and policies that Mrs. Rawlins sent home today. Hopefully it will be a great year for Kate!

Spencer is going to be in Kindergarten this year. His teacher is Mrs. Searle. She is actually cousins to my friend Maria. She seemed really nice and Spencer liked her. Spencer was a little put out when he realized that because of kindergarten assessments, he doesn't get to start school until next Thursday. He is ready to go! I can't believe my little Spencer is going to school. He has been my buddy and I'm going to miss having him here all day. Of course, kindergarten is really only about 2 hours...so I guess he'll still be around some.:)

Well, I better get to bed...what with Logan leaving for school at 7:05 am, we are now getting up quite a bit earlier to get him off. Last year he didn't even wake up until 7:45!

Bear Lake

We were invited to go to a cabin (Maria's...in the middle front holding the dark haired baby) in Bear Lake with some people from the ward. It was mostly moms and kids the days we were there. Jay had just gotten back from another trip and had to catch up on work, so he wasn't able to go with us. It was so fun! Now we know that only an hour away is a great beach and a very do-able day trip. I was glad we all made it home...the kids are getting pretty brave in the water after just completing another session of swimming lessons.

Bees Game

One of the things Logan asked for as a birth-day present was to go to a base-ball game. So we went to a Bees Game in Salt Lake on July 25th. Jay had been out of town all week, so we picked him up at the airport, grabbed some dinner, and then headed to the ball park. I think after taking Spencer to the bathroom 5 times, we pretty much decided that next time Jay and Logan may just want to go by themselves. It was fun though and we even stayed to watch the fireworks after the game.

We went to the Ranch (Woodland, UT where Emily's parents live) for a few days over the 4th of July. Katelyn absolutely loved helping my cousin Jim brush and ride his horses. Spencer and Kate had a great time at the swimming hole with their cousins and all the kids (and my brother, Rich) loved the sparklers. We also went to Salt Lake for the Warnick reunion...here is Kate with her cousin Kaley. Matthew slept for a minute and then screamed during the whole program, so I got to walk him around the block. Incidently, he now has two teeth, one of which came in while we were there, so he really wasn't his best self.

Logan turned 11 last Saturday, July 12. He wanted to have a water party with a few of his friends. We went in with our neighbors this year on a big Banzai waterslide,so we put that up along with our little pool. They played on those, had a water balloon and silly string fight, played some water games, ate pizza, cake, and ice cream, and opened presents. It was fun.

Jay joined in the water fight and before we knew it buckets of water were flying...

Jay ended up being the favorite target...he was soaked.

Logan had a great day! He was pretty excited when a couple of his friends said it was the most fun party they had ever been to.

One of the games we played was "How well do you know the birthday boy?" I asked Logan to fill out a paper with some of his favorites before the party and then his friends had to write down what they thought. Most of them got about half of the questions right.

Logan is such a wonderful person, son, brother, and friend. He has brought so much joy to our lives. It has been amazing to see him grow from a baby to the young man that he is. We love him and had so much fun celebrating his birth and life. He wanted tickets to go see the Bee's play in Salt Lake, so we get to do that next week!

Well, our little Matthew is no longer very little. We took him to his 6 month well check last week and he is now 19 lbs 9 oz! That is the 90 percentile for weight...he is also in the 95+ percentile for height though, so he really doesn't have that many rolls (except under his chin!). The nurse measured his head twice because she thought that it was such a big jump from the last check up. I just told her we just grow them big.

This was taken as we were waiting for Jay to buy our tickets to get into Hogle Zoo.

Cousin Johnny and Matthew...we love him!

Finally asleep, at least for a minute or until I try to lay him down. He has it all figured out...he'll sleep if I hold him, but unless he is really out, when I try to lay him down he wakes up and screams so we will pick him up again. Needless to say, we aren't getting much done around the house, but he won't be a baby forever right!

Matthew is eating his baby food twice a day now, and even tried a little corner of a graham cracker and Ritz cracker yesterday...he thought they were the best thing ever! He keeps us busy and our arms are tired from lugging him around everywhere. We now leave the infant seat in the car when we go places unless we can put it in the cart...it's just too heavy. Matthew thinks he's pretty smart, sitting up, picking up things, able to talk...the kids are convinced that his first word is Mom or Ma, but I'm not sure if he knows that's me yet or if he is just babbling and trying to copy everyone. He is fun and definitely not starved for attention around here!

Spencer, our Soccer Player Extraordinaire

The first thing Spencer wanted to do when the snow finally melted is take the training wheels off his bike. So here he is showing you how cool he is to be a "big kid." It was the neatest thing to see Logan and Katelyn running alongside, encouraging, and helping him. The only problem is now he is so fast, I can't keep up with him!

Spencer played soccer this spring. This was our first experience with soccer as a family and let me tell you that if you ever need a good belly laugh, sign your child up for soccer. It was awesome...seeing a whole pack of kids follow the ball around the field, kicking each other in the shins, making goals for the other team. We laughed hard. It was fun though and eventually they figured out what it was they were supposed to be doing. Spencer ended up being a pretty good little player and was great taking the ball down the field. In the last game, while Jay was coaching Logan's first baseball game at another park, Spencer took it down and scored two goals, and assisted on a couple of others. It was a good outlet for all of his energy.

Who are those monkeys hanging upside down? Just Spencer & cousin Molly at Hogle Zoo a couple of weeks ago. Instead of staring at the monkeys, the monkeys were staring at them and trying to copy their moves...as Katelyn looks on.

Every time we take a picture, Spencer wants to jump right in. I was taking some pictures of Matthew sitting up the other morning in his Spiderman pj's and Spencer wanted to be a part of it. Luckily, you can't smell their morning breath from where you are! What a cute kid, or should I say kids! Gotta love them!

Katelyn's 2nd Grade Program and Dance Recital

Katelyn's end of the year program was wonderful! The 2nd grade spent all year learning about and doing service for their families, community, country, world, environment, etc., so it was all about that. The slide show was also broken down into each service project, one a month, and the songs were cute...here's a little sample of it.

Katelyn also performed in May at the Ellen's Ecceles Theater on Main Street in her Ballet Recital. She was in two numbers, one was to showcase the techniques they have been learning this year and the other one was more for fun (they were dressed like kittens). She stole the show. Jay's and my parents both came, as well as my grandparents and sister, Merilee.

The Young Women in our ward had a dance camp as a Girls' Camp fundraiser. They invited all the primary aged girls (3-11) to come and learn a dance from "High School Musical." They practiced for 3 days and then performed that night. Katelyn LOVED it! I had a number of people come up to me at the performance who were involved with teaching the dance, and a bunch of others just watching to tell me what a great dancer she was. I just thought it was a great idea for the YW...no overhead, 3 days and it was over, they made tons of money, and everyone had a fabulous time.

Katelyn is also now in Activity Days for the 8-11 year old girls. The past month they have been working on a Mother/Daughter party where the girls all picked and modeled a modest summer outfit. It was fun! They had the girls fill out a spotlight including their favorites which they read as the girls walked around the stage. Some of the girls walked as fast as they could, so they were still talking about them well after they had exited the stage, others were just hamming it up. One of the little, shy girls in our Primary class blew a kiss to the crowd at her last pose point...it was great! Then we all had cheesecake and each mother and daughter had their picture taken in front of the beach props on the stage.

Katelyn is still always wanting to be around Matthew and is so loving and helpful with her little brothers. She loves making them laugh and Jay & I are always trying to settle them all down so we can eat our meals....maybe someday we'll have manners!

At the end of the school year, Logan had some fun activities. He ran in the Wellsville Mile along with all of the 5th graders from numerous schools in Cache Valley. (He's in the gray shirt behind the boy in the middle in red.) There were 3 heats for each of the 4th grade girls & boys and 5th grade girls & boys. They had all been practicing and timing their miles for a month or so to divide them into the right group. Logan was in the 5th grade boys 3rd heat (the fastest and the very last race of the day)...he did very well and placed 39th overall. It was quite the event and a tradition throughout the valley. They even had the high school track team running with them for encouragement and support, started with a racing gun, and cooled off after in a misting tent as they weaved back and forth to receive their time, drink, and treat.

The 5th grade at our school also participates in a Civil War reenactment with water balloons as ammunition. It was amazing. They had students and the principal introducing each battle and telling a bit of history before they would line up and fire. They all had to sign a contract and get a parent signature commiting not to ruin the war with crazy behavior or put anything but water in their balloons. They spent days practicing to get everything just right. I volunteered to help with props and was assigned to make the general's uniforms from two button down shirts. Logan is modeling them here.

Logan was also chosen to speak at his 5th grade graduation and awards ceremony. A boy and girl from each class were asked to tell about their experiences during the year. He did a great job! We found out after he spoke that those who spoke also received the "Hope of America Award" from the Kiwanis Club recognizing students for their academic achievement, leadership qualities, and overall good work and potential as future leaders of society.

The medal has his name engraved on it and is the "Great American Award." He had to do a whole list of things (memorize the Preamble of the Constitution and the Gettysburg Address, take the US Citizen's Test, Identify the States and the Capitals, Name all 43 Presidents of the US in order, write the Pledge of Allegience with perfect spelling, punctuation and grammar, and sing the Star Spangled Banner.) He was the first one in the whole grade to accomplish everything and he didn't even start until the 2nd trimester. He also got a few other awards for reading and core testing etc. He had a great year, teacher, etc. Logan is now in the middle of baseball season and the star pitcher and catcher on the team. Jay is coaching and enjoying the ups and downs that come with that!

I know we are posting a lot of pictures of these two, but they are the ones home with me all day. Matthew went to his 4 month well check and we are growing a giant! The nurse measured his length twice because she couldn't believe it could be right - he was almost 27" long (95+% for his age). He also weighed in at 16 lbs. 6 oz. (80%). He is very "talkative" now, loves it when his brothers and sister interact with him, and tries to pull away from your support when sitting on your lap. He likes to look around and hold his toys, too. Matthew was sleeping through the nights most of the time, but has reverted back to getting up once or twice again, usually just when I have fallen asleep...we're hoping it's just a phase.

For those of you who don't know, I come from a very large family. Three years ago, Jay and I were the only couple of the 7 married children not to have a baby that year and my oldest brother and wife had twins. This year is ending up being similar with Josie, Jonny, Noah, Matthew, Alleyah, Chloe, and two baby girls yet to come (so far).

Egg Hunt

We carried on the Warnick egg hunt tradition at home since we were going to Kamas for my brother's twins baby blessings on Easter Sunday. Everyone had to find two dyed eggs with their name on it. Jay helped Matthew find his. Katelyn and Spencer found their eggs easy enough, but Logan had to look and look. He even enlisted our neighbor's help. We finally told him when he was getting hot or cold.

St. George

We decided to get out of the snow for a few days and go with Jay to the Parks and Rec show in St. George March 17-18. Monday it was only about 50 degrees, but we were at the park in our short sleeves, shorts/capris, and sandals freezing in the wind (except Spencer - as you can see he still had his coat on!). I found it humorous that just because we were in southern Utah we felt we had to pull out our summer clothes even though with the same temps a week or so before at home in Logan we were still wearing long pants and jackets. Tuesday was beautiful...it was in the 70's...unfortunately it was the day we had to go home and we watched the temperature fall more than 30 degrees in the car on the way home. It was a quick trip, but we were able to run around outside, go to two parks, go swimming (we thought the kids were nuts!) and play minature golf at the fun park. It was just what we needed to get us through until spring decides to come to northern Utah.

I never realized how much harder it would be to take pictures of four children instead of 3. When I did finally get Matthew looking the other kids were looking at him, or moving (so they were blurry), or laughing. This was the best we could do (of about 20 pictures).

Matthew is getting bigger. He has rounder cheeks and is smiling and making lots of cute noises these days. But as you can see from some of the other pictures he's still little compared to Spencer's feet and Emily's hand.

For those of you not at Matthew's baby blessing, this was the pose he struck after the Amen. Jay wasn't going to lift him up, but he couldn't help himself when he saw that...it was as if Matthew was saying, "Wow, what an awesome blessing!" Logan of course refers to it as his touchdown symbol.

Valentine's

Katelyn and Logan had definite ideas this year when it came time to make their Valentine's boxes. Katelyn wanted her box to look like her, so we used felt and left over material from her dress for Kaley & Johnny's wedding and this is what we ended up with. Logan's class was having a competition with different categories. We tried for sportiest and transportation, but in the end he won "funniest" since his "sports car" looked more like a winnebago.

Katelyn's Haircut...

Ever since Katelyn saw Barbie as Rapunzel she has wanted to grow her hair long. So, all I have been allowed to do is give her a small trim every few months. Well, she came home one day a few weeks ago and had decided she wanted a chin length bob. As you can see we settled on a longer version so we could still pull it up for ballet and just have more styling options.

Spencer's 5th Birthday!

We can't believe our little Spencer is 5. We even went and got him registered for kindergarten last week! He is just growing up. He also decided that he wanted to try playing soccer, so we are waiting to find out which team he's on and when practices start (any day).

Spencer had a fun day complete with his favorite foods: Crepes for breakfast sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar, Macaroni and cheese for lunch, and Twisty noodles for dinner (Rotelle noodles with alfredo sauce and carrots). His cake was hilarious, he wanted angel food cake, but we baked it and as soon as it was cool we frosted it, so every time we looked over it had gotten shorter and shorter, I guess next time we need to make it the night before like we did Kate's that way it can set up better and not be the incredible shrinking cake! He now says BLUE is his favorite color! (His birthday was Feb. 5th.)

Katelyn's Baptism

Katelyn was baptized on Saturday, Febrary 2, 2008. She was the only one in our stake to be baptized that day, so we were able to put the whole program together having family members give the talks, prayers, and music. It was a wonderful day.

Matthew's Blessing

Matthew was blessed on Sunday, January 6, 2008. There was a horrible snow storm that weekend, so we are very thankful for those family members and friends who braved the elements and came to share this amazing day with us. This is one neat little man and we are so blessed and grateful to have him in our family and in our home.

To celebrate the New Year we went to Rexburg to visit with Jay's family and go to the Rexburg Temple Open House. It was beautiful and so neat to see what the inside looked like after watching it be built out our kitchen window all those months while we lived there.

Merry Christmas 2007

We had a wonderful Christmas! We were able to visit our families in Woodland, UT and Rexburg, ID over the break.

We spent Christmas Eve and Christmas day at home though. We had a candle light dinner, opened our pj's, and after reading the Christmas story, we got to bed so Santa could come.

Santa did find us at our new house and we all enjoyed lounging around in our pj's all day, being together, and playing with our toys.

Ultimately, our favorite gift, attraction, and toy, was our new little Matthew. He couldn't figure out what all the fuss was...

and eventually just fell asleep.

Matthew after his bath...all clean and happy! He has been so fun! He's a little confused that he's supposed to be awake when the sun is out and shining, he prefers to stay up all night and sleep really soundly during the day. Last night he did a little better though. He actually slept for a whole 4 hour block...

Jay and I were so grateful!

Spencer helped me give Matthew his first bath in the sink this morning...We think he liked it, at least more than the sponge baths he's been getting.

Matthew arrived on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 @ 4:02 pm. He weighed in at 7 lbs. 14 oz. and is 20" long. He is so cute and we all absolutely adore him. It is so nice to have him here!

"Wingardium Leviosa!" said our little Harry Potter this year! Spencer was so cute and everyone knew who he was supposed to be.

Spencer's favorite part of Halloween was "going trick or treating and getting the Sweetart skeleton bones & pumpkin suckers."

Logan was a mad scientist this year for Halloween. He had a hard time deciding, but finally came up with something on Monday. He was excited because a few people didn't even recognize him. He said a bunch of kids kept stealing his wig and scientific potion.

Logan said his favorite part of Halloween was "eating the candy!" Logan was also able to go to the USU basketball season opener with Jay though, so that may have been a close second to his candy!

Katelyn dressed up as a Renaissance Princess. She loved her costume especially the sparkly gold shoes that she found in her Grandma Patsy's dress ups. She was a busy girl on Halloween going straight from school, to ballet, to the trunk or treat, out trick or treating, and then passed out candy at home.

When asked what her favorite part of Halloween was, she responded, "Carving pumpkins, seeing all the kids in their costumes who came trick or treating to our house, and eating candy."

So, obviously, our kids are candy addicts. We are hoping that once the candy is all gone their sugar levels will go back to normal and that our next visit to the dentist isn't a disaster. All in all though, it was a great day and everyone enjoyed themselves --even Jay who generally isn't a big fan of Halloween.

We recently had a week off school for Parent Teacher Conferences and UEA. We spent one afternoon at a local park where we ate lunch, played on the playground, tennis, and baseball. It was so much fun! We are trying to soak up as much sunshine as we can before the long winter sets in.

2007 has been a crazy year for our family. Jay left BYU-I in Nov. 2006 to work for World Class Athletic Surfaces. The company is based in Mississippi and Jay is over distribution in all the Western States. They manufacture and distribute field marking paint and make the stencils for the logos applied to sports fields. They also sell just about everything and anything to maintain sports fields.

This picture was taken the day before Easter 2007 with the Easter Bird (Jay's mom).

This was the last week of this year that Emily felt like herself, due to the fact that we are expecting a new baby boy on December 5th. This has been the most difficult of our pregnancies and Emily spent much of the spring and summer nonfunctional on the couch or in bed. Because of her lack of activity, she developed a large Deep Vein Thrombosis (blood clot) in her left leg and was hospitalized for 4 days in May. Her doctors put her on a subcutaneous injection of blood thinners which Jay administers daily in her stomach and she gets to wear thigh high compression stockings 24-7. It has been such a blessing to have Jay working out of our home and he is glad Emily is feeling better so he doesn't have to do everything. He was amazing with all the things he did for everyone. Now, we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our new little one in about 7 weeks.

During all of this our house in Rexburg was up for sale and we relocated to Providence, UT at the end of June. Jay needed to be closer to the Salt Lake airport and we decided to come back to the Cache Valley. We have absolutely loved it here and feel like we have returned home (this is where Jay and Emily met and Jay's almamater).

Logan spent the beginning of the year playing basketball and the spring playing baseball. Jay was his coach for both teams and they both enjoyed it. This year he tried out pitching and ended up being the most consistent on the team. He also spent some time behind the plate as catcher when the other pitchers were in. Logan continues to excel in school. His 4th grade teacher Mrs. Smith said if all of her students were like Logan she wouldn't ever have a problem in class. Logan continues to be an avid reader and can spell anything. He has enjoyed having his own room in our new house and decided that he wanted to decorate it with airplanes. He was able to help and watch the air show put on through the Legacy Flight Museum in Rexburg this summer. (His grandpa, Loyd, is very involved over there and has included Jay and Logan in a number of activities.)

Katelyn spent the spring dancing again with Cindy's Dance Connection in Rexburg. She was able to finish her tour of performances before we moved. They performed tap and ballet numbers and even threw in a little Jazz this year. She was great! Katelyn continues to be good at anything and everything that she tries. She has dabbled a little in piano and this summer took up cross-stitching. She, too, loves to read and is always getting all of the neighborhood kids (Spencer's age) to attend her school, where she loves to "teach" them all of her knowledge. Since moving to Providence, she is enrolled in the Civic Ballet. We were sad to give up on tap, since she was so good at that, but this has been good for her and her instructor just happened to be our realtor. Kate was a little disappointed at first to find out that she is having another brother instead of a sister, but now she is just excited to have a baby around and be able to help. She is enjoying her teachers and had already made a whole bunch of friends by the end of the first week at school.

Spencer is still our happy, well-adjusted little man. He was the best helper while Emily was so sick and took such good care of her. He has become the social director in our new neighborhood, with 3 friends just his age next door and directly across the street. That's all he wants to do everyday, "Mom, I think I'll go play with my friends now." Spencer is excited to be the big brother and to share his room with the baby. We just bought some paint and we are going to fix it all up for the little boys in the coming weeks. Spencer is learning all the letters, sounds, numbers, etc. Jay and Emily were surprised this summer when he started writing his name on all of his papers, since we don't know where he picked that up...maybe at Katelyn's school? He has enjoyed, as well as all the kids, being closer to our Goates cousins who are just their ages. He's always asking when he can play with Molly again.

The kids all loved the summer in our new house mostly due to the trampoline that the previous owners left and the slip and slide that Jay rigged up for them down the hill in the back yard. They also took swimming lessons at the Aquatics Center and had a great time with that. They were ready to go back to school though and even though they miss their friends, they seem to be enjoying their new surroundings. We have spent a good amount of time frequenting Aggie ice cream and have gone on some drives up the canyons and visited the parks around town. On one trip to the Ranch (where Emily's parents live) Katelyn and Spencer were able to ride horses and everyone loved swimming at the swimming hole.

Providence Elementary

Logan and Katelyn started school this year on Aug. 23rd at Providence Elementary in Logan, UT. Logan is in the 5th grade. His teacher is Mrs. Glover.

Katelyn is in the 2nd grade and has team teachers, Mrs. Darley and Mrs. Rees.

Spencer is our big preschooler (we moved here too late to get him into a real preschool, so mom is helping him play letter and number games at home to get him ready for kindergarten next fall.)
